Any agency can put together a polished portfolio page. That’s easy. What matters is what those sites actually look like when you open them in the real world.

Ask for the real URLs of websites they’ve built. Then open them on your phone. If a site loads slowly or looks broken on mobile, walk away — most people in Mauritius are browsing on their phones, not sitting at a desktop. That’s just how we do things here.

Click around. Is the contact button easy to find? Does the menu actually work? Do images load without you wanting to close the tab? A good agency stands behind every site they’ve built — not just the ones they photographed for their own homepage.

5. Get the Scope of Work in Writing

Sounds obvious. But I’ve spoken to business owners who paid a deposit based on a WhatsApp voice note and a handshake — and ended up with something completely different from what they’d imagined.

A proper web agency in Mauritius will give you a written quote that spells out exactly what you’re getting. How many pages. How many revision rounds. When the site gets delivered. The full cost. If any of that is vague, or “we’ll sort it out as we go”… don’t proceed. Seriously.

And if an agency pushes back on putting things in writing? That tells you everything you need to know about how they’ll handle problems down the line.
